1912

18 Dec 1911: O 5 is ordered.

15 June 1912: O 5 is laid down at the K.M. De Schelde shipyard in Vlissingen.

1913

2 Oct 1913: O 5 is launched.

1914

20 or 21 Aug 1914: O 5 is commissioned to the Royal Netherlands Navy. The boat is attached to the Submarine station in Vlissingen.

31 Jan 1914: O 5 sinks after an inner and outer torpedo tube door have been opened simultaneously.

Feb 1914:  The O 5 is raised by Bergingsvaartuig and commissioned once again.

21 Aug 1914 - 1915: O 5 is under the command of Ltz. II  .

World War I

The Netherlands is neutral.

O 5 is based at Den Helder.

1915

20 Aug 1915:  O 5 is commissioned to the Royal Netherlands Navy.

Date unknown: The O 5 sinks because both torpedo tube doors are opened simultaneously. She is salvaged on commissioned once again.

15 - 10 Nov 1916: O 5 is under the command of Ltz. II  / Ltz. I  .

1916

9 Feb 1916: One man is lost during a torpedo explosion on board the O 5 in Vlissingen 

One man dies (Kpl. Mach. 2nd class ) and six are wounded when O 5 accidentally launches a torpedo while being moored. Sgt-Torpedoman E.A. Vreede is performing a 'fire control' check and because of a leak in the 'air chamber' of the faulty torpedo the weapon is launched and explodes alongside a pontoon.

18 Sep 1919 - 10 Apr 1920: O 5 is under the command of Ltz. II  .

10 Apr - 9 Nov 1920: O 5 is under the command of Ltz. II  Esq. .

9 Nov 1920 - 1 Apr 1922: O 5 is under the command of Ltz. II  / Ltz. I  .
