1928

20 Oct 1928: O 12 is laid down at the K.M. De Schelde shipyard in Vlissingen.

1930

8 Nov 1930: O 12 is launched.

1931

20 July 1931: O 12 is commissioned to the Royal Netherlands Navy.

?20 July 1931 - 1932: O 12 is under the command of Ltz. II  .?

If van Dulm really commanded a submarine around this time then several other older officers were passed in favour of van Dulm.

1935

10 Sep - 22 Sep 1935: O 12, O 13, O 15, Hertog Hendrik, Kortenaer, Van Ghent and Z 5 make a trip to Göteborg (Sweden) and Oslo (Norway).

1937

14 or 16 Apr - 24 Dec 1937: O 12 and O 14 take a journey to the Caribbean and Suriname.

14 or 16 Apr - 6 May 1937: O 12 and O 14 sail from Nieuwediep (Den Helder) via Ponta Delgada (Azores) and San Juan (Puorto Rico) )to Curaçao.

19 Jul - 8 Aug 1937: O 12 and O 14 sail from Curaçao to Port of Spain (Trinidad and Tobago) and Suriname.

26 Nov - 24 Dec 1937: O 12 and O 14 sail from Curaçao to Den Helder. They make atleast one stop at San Juan (Puorto Rico).

? - 22 Sep 1937: O 12 is under the command of Ltz. I  .

22 Sep - 24 Dec 1937: O 12 is under the command of Ltz. I  .

1938

1938 - 1939: O 12 is under the command of Ltz. I  .

20 Sep - 13 Dec 1938: O 12 and O 15 make a journey to Curaçao.

1939

reports: 23 Aug 1939 - 22 Sep 1939: O 12 is under the command of Ltz. I  and is stationed at Ijmuiden.

22 Sep - 18 Nov 1939: O 12 is under the command of Ltz. II  .

1940

10 May 1940: Germany attacks the Netherlands.

14 May 1940: While under repair (4 yearly maintenance) at the Rijkswerf shipyard in Den Helder, the O 12 is scuttled in order to avoid being captured by invading German forces.

June 1940: The Germans raise the O 12 and repair the submarine at the Wilton-Fijenoord shipyard.

O 12 is renamed U-D2.

1941

7 Dec 1941: The USA declares war on Japan after Japanese forces attack Pearl Harbour. Approximately 7 hours after the attack the Netherlands also declares war on Japan.

14 Dec 1941: Japanese planes bomb Tarempah (Anambas Islands) which is Netherlands East Indies territory.

27 Dec 1941: Japanese invaders occupy Tambelan Islands, Dutch territory, between Borneo and Singapore.

1943

14 Jan 1943 - Apr 1944: U-D2 is under the command of Krvkpt. F. Venier.

30 Jan 1943 - 6 July 1944: U-D2 is commissioned to the German Navy.

? U-D2 is attached to the 10 U-Flotilla and conducts war patrols west of Africa. ?

Jan 1943 - July 1944: U-D2 is stationed at the U-Abwehrschule in Bergen (Norway) and until her decommissioning she is used as a school boat.

1944

Apr - 6 July 1944: U-D2 is under the command of Oblt. G. Scholz.

6 July 1944: U-D2 is decommissioned.

1945

3 May 1945: U-D2 is scuttled in Kiel (Germany).

8 May 1945: Germany surrenders.

The wreck of U-D2 is broken up.
