19 Oct 1910: K I is ordered by the Ministry of Colonies.

16 Sep 1911: K I is laid down at the K.M. De Schelde shipyard in Vlissingen.
1913
20 May 1913: K I is launched.
1914
15 July 1914: K I is commissioned to the Royal Netherlands Navy.
15 July 1914 - ?: K I is under the command of Ltz. I .

The Netherlands is neutral.
1916
12 Sep - 6 Nov 1916: K I departs from Nieuwediep for the Netherlands East Indies. The tugboat Witte Zee tows her to Sabang via Duins, Vigo, Malta, Port-Said, Suez Canal, Ismailia, Aden and Colombo. K I finishes the last leg of the journey from Sabang to Batavia (Jakarta, Dutch East Indies) under her own power. On this last leg she is escorted by the vessel Hr.Ms. Koningin Regentes.
6 Nov 1916: K I arrives in Sabang. She is the first Dutch submarine in the Netherlands East Indies.

6 Oct 1918: K I is temporarily under the command of Ltz. I .
6 Oct 1918 - 29 Aug 1919: K I is under the command of Ltz. I .

29 Aug - 24 Oct 1919: K I is temporarily under the command of Ltz. II .
24 Oct 1919 - 1 Dec 1921: K I is under the command of Ltz. II / Ltz. I .

Still based in Sabang, the K I is decommissioned.
